I liked your question. So many answers come to my mind. Some people obviously want points and some obviously want to put ridiculous answers down because they can. Some might actually think that their "drivel" is a good response.
Maybe people have forgotten how to wax philosophical. It seems to be something that requires too much thought in this age of text messaging, instant gratification, and micro sound bites.
