My 6 week old for the past two days has been very cranky. He hasn't went poop either so I asume he is constipated. What can I do to help him? There is no meds for this in his age group.

Don't assume your son is constipated without some other symptoms besides being cranky and not pooping. If he is being exclusively breastfed, it is rare that he would be constipated. Breast milk is easily digested and the baby's body often uses all the nutrients for proper growth. It is not uncommon for some breast fed babies to go several days between poopy diapers, but will continue to produce wet diapers. If your son is formula fed, he will probably show other signs of constipation such as wanting to eat more often, being gassy, crying uncontrollably, and pulling his knees up towards his chest. You can try to give him a little bit of water. Boil it first, then cool it to room temperature. Offer him only a small amount, an ounce or less. It may help him if he is constipated and won't hurt him if he isn't. Do not give him any type of juice, especially anything citrus. It will make his tummy worse and his system is not mature enough to digest it properly.

OK, first of all - is your baby breastfed or formula fed? Breastfed babies have soft, unformed poos, and in the first few weeks they usually have their bowels open frequently, perhaps every feed time. Bottlefed babies tend to have firmer poos and pass them less frequently when the baby is young.

A baby can actually go 2-3 days without a poop, and still not be considered to be constipated. Here is an exert from a book I'm reading:

'Contipation refers to the poo being so hard and dry that it is difficult to pass. The baby may become quite upset. The eventual result will be like firm pebbles, and you may even notice a streak of blood on the poo from a small tear in the anus. If this happens, talk to your doctor or child health nurse'

We found out today my that daughter is constipated. She is bottlefed and is still doing regular poos (once a day). This morning when she did a poop it was hard, dry, and she screamed... boy did she scream! I ended up calling a parenting helpline, and the midwife told me to give her a teaspoon of brown sugar with 30ml of cooled boiled water, before her next three feeds, as it has a laxative effect. She also told me to cycle her legs at every change time, rub her belly clockwise, give her warm baths, and offer coiled boiled water before bed and after play time.

First is he breast fed or formula fed? Breast fed babies are rarely constipated, and it is normal for a baby to go several day between bowel movements. This is because there is less solid wasted in breast milk and more of it is absorbed into the body. Formula fed babies will go more often, and the Iron in the formula tends to constipate babies. Try laying him on his back and gently bring his knees to his abdomen and press lightly. He may just have some gas, and may not even be constipated. Try laying him on his belly across your knees and rub his back. Try soothing measures first, before giving him anything and if you are really concerned call your doctor. Try some baby gas drops. Or he could just be cranky, babies have there crabky days just like adults do. Don't stick anything in his rectum to try and remove anything because you don't know that he actually constipated and that should only be done by a professional anyways.

Walmart would not sell medicine for tapeworms, basically roundworms, and that i would not provide the pup something with out seeing the vet first, because he's so youthful. If the worms are shifting, then the former proprietor (who weaned him way too early, btw) the two did no longer computer virus him or it did no longer artwork. till you used medicated shampoo, he in all threat nonetheless has fleas, because known dogs shampoo won't kill the flea eggs and may be able to no longer wash away each and all the stay fleas the two. returned, because of the fact he's so youthful, wait till you have considered the vet till now you employ any drugs on him! regardless of if the fleas are long previous, he could be having a reaction to a minimum of a few thing else, like the flea bites, the shampoo, or another an infection or hypersensitive reaction. As for nutrients, basically shop feeding him somewhat greater suitable than what's pronounced for a pup his age and weight. The worms are preserving him from soaking up nutrients from the nutrients, that's why he's continuously hungry and bloated. as quickly as you eliminate the worms, those indicators could flow away especially speedy. individually, i could call the vet's workplace and get your appointment moved up if in any respect obtainable. And make beneficial to soak up a pattern of the poop (as sparkling as obtainable) once you flow.

The two days gap plus crankiness sounds like constipation to me.
Standard answer: for immediate relief, infant glycerin suppositories (1 gram)

My first son had chronic constipation as a baby. It might sound weird, but what worked for him was to mix 2 oz. of prune juice in a 10-oz. bottle of formula.

If that doesn't work, ask your pediatrician about Glycolax: it's a pediatric laxative, very gentle on little tummies. Good luck--

Most pediatricians will recomend Karo syrup. You can find it in your local grocery store. Mix a small amount with some water and give either in a bottle or small medicine dropper. This worked great for both my boys!

Apple juice will work but it is VERY high in acid and will upset your small ones stomach and may cause more problems than it does good.

my daughter is 6 weeks old... when ever she starts to get constipated i give her some gas drops and it usually helps her out. my mother also suggested to give her either sugar water or peppermint water (1/2 peppermint candy cane with 8-9 ounces warm water... let him have an ounce or two at a time or it might give him the runs [personal experience])
hope it works for you

My baby has a slow digestive system... she has never gone poo everyday (she's eight months now). There are glycerine suppositories (infant/childrens)... cut it in half when they're that small.
Many babies can go days without pooping... his little system is probably going through a changing stage...try a warm bath, and lots of fluids.
