Well, *The* Best is Snap On, which is also very expensive. Mac, or Cornwell com are excellent as well, but also expensive. You can always buy him a nice Craftsman Box at Sears, and if he keeps at mechanics as a career, and is making money at it, he can upgrade later. There's nothing wrong with a Craftsman Box, but, as he's going to be a Diesel mechanic, get the box with the Ball Bearing slides on the drawers, not the "Quiet Glide" system. He's going to have a lot of HEAVY tools, and he'll need the ball bearing slides, they work better, and support much more weight. You can check Ebay, and your local craigslist You can sometimes find a real deal on a box, especially on craigslist. Hope this helps.

Snap On is without a doubt the best. However, they are very expensive. Craftsman is a resoanable priced and good brand. I've had a craftsman roll away and top box for over 20 years and never have had a problem. Less than $200 - $300 can get you a nice one.

All the name brand ones are very expensive,I did see a good quality one at Costco for about $700.00.As he excels in his career he can get a better tool box.I have had to buy three in my twenty years of being a mechanic and have always upgraded as my tool collection grows.

Gotta go with john L , Sears. Snap on, Mac etc. are all names that don't mean much but high prices. Sears Craftsman gives you a huge variety and guarantees at reasonable prices. Consider Craftsman Tools also, Guaranted Forever and also fairly priced.Get a catalog at any Sears

Best Brand, if you can afford it is Snap-On, They are very price. I was looking at one on wednesday from my Snap-On dealer, and the one I was looking at was a smaller one and nothing fancy and he was wanting $3200 for it. But NAPA has a nice large box. A technician I work with has one, its huge, and it was about $1200

snap on is the best, but very expsensive. sidchrome or kingchrome are also very good brands and a lot cheaper than snap on.
