Nope, they actually have a fairly good memory, you can train a goldfish to go to the same side of the tank each day by making a noise and feeding it from the same spot, eventually when it hears the noise it'll go up to that spot looking for the food. If it had a five second memory, it wouldn't be able to do that.

The memory isn't confined to 5 seconds. It's probably more like 5 minutes. If something is repeated every day though, the goldfish will have an inner sense which will tell it what is going to happen.

Goldfish actually have quite a good memory. And as long as something is interesting, a good attention span. Do you pay attentin if something isn't interesting you? Probably not, and it's the same for most animals and humans. Goldfish can be trained and remeber who feeds them and alot of other things. They are quite interesting animals.

i dont really know i herd on tv and some other places a couple of times that they only have a 3 second memory span, they only have a brain proly the size of a small pebble, think about it, how much can they fit into that head???? lol

they have a five second Attention Span. this means that if it takes your fish 5 seconds to swim one lap around the tank, the next lap is a whole new experience!
