When making change, a lot of clerks hand you the bills, the receipt, and then place the coins on top of it all.

Should the clerk count back the money to the customer starting with the coins then the bills and hand you the coins first?

When I was younger I was a cashier. I say change should be given first. I hate when they put it on top of the bills and it falls all over! At least they could make a pocket out of the bills to put the change in. One drive thru I went to, the guy did that! I was impressed! Also, they should count back to you. They don't do that anymore. They just read the register.

I work in a restaurant part-time...I would keep the bill the customer is paying with on the side (so there is no arguments), then I always count back th money starting with the change and then the bills...and then the receipt...

They should count it back starting with the amount of the purchase. State that amount first, then coult up as you hand the money back to the customer until you reach the amount they handed you to pay for the purchase.

VERY carefully! I think the cashiers should lay the money that you give them on register, then count back to customer from amount owed. Example amount of bill:$15.87;amount tended:$20.00; Cashier counts back:"Your total is $15.87, .88, .89, .90,$16.00,$17.00,$18.00,$19.00,& $20.00"
