If there are other intelligent species in the universe, we’ll never know it. The universe is so vast, so large, that even light can’t reach all the way across it in time. Even if we were to travel at the speed of light, to reach other stars would take lifetimes! Even if we started a big colony ship over there (if we knew which way to go!) by the time their descendants got there, they would have become so mutated, they would no longer be human beings. They would have huge heads and skinny bodies from having lived in space all their lives. They would be all gray and wrinkly from exposure to cosmic radiation, because you can’t carry enough shielding to stop it and still travel fast enough to get anywhere. In fact, they probably couldn’t reproduce enough to have any survivors reach another planet.

And then if they did, why would they want to stop? They spent all their lives in space, why would they want to land where there’s gravity? Gravity is nasty, you get HURT when you fall down!

No, human beings will never reach other civilizations. And if other people visit us, they won’t want our world. Thank goodness!

It is logical to say no we are not the firs, the universe is over 400 billion years old, if you where to take a look at us as if we and the universe where one big building say 100 floors, we right now would be at floor 99 1/2 though 400 billion years ago was floor 1, just to give you a prospective, the dinosaur's would have lived on floor 96. And sense we are just know learning this and more about are solar system and universe you would be foolish to think we are the first, I do think there is intelligent life out there some older some younger, some may have destroyed them self's by now or just be eaten up by a black hole. So with that being said yes there is intelligent life out there and no we are not the first. And for all you bible thumpers out there do your home work and think for your selfs please, stop being brain washed. Knowing the truth is eye opening.

There are plenty of stars much older than our Sun.
Astronomers are discovering new "solar" systems all the time.
It seems to be quite common for a star to have a planetary system.
It is quite unlikely that we are the first and much less the only intelligent (?) creatures in the universe.
Maybe there have been no encounters yet because the distances involved are enormous, and their interest on us may be nonexistent or just scientific curiosity.
May be somebody or many had encounters but nobody will believe them. Therefore many won't even tell for fear of being ridiculous.
They may be here with us? It is also quite unlikely that the aliens will resemble humans. Life evolves in different ways everywhere.

Think about this..The odds there is any real life on another planet except for a few micro-forms..Is very unlikely because you would need the planet to be designed to have a upper atmosphere layers and water, and a light form with the right inner planet structure, that is not in a constant destruction by asteroids on a rotation in that solar system.) And there is more un-likely science involved in your theory of Aliens despite what was once thought from Sci-Fi movies.

Of course we are not the first. We are also not the last. The Universe is huge! There are many planets out there with life and intelligent life.

We are not alone, but if we are the first is no simple question.
Life could have emerged in the universe over a span of many billions of years. We could have been the first or the billionth!!

Cosmo Kramer was first, how do you think he got his name, then the Alien digressed in the tirade, I'm surprised his head didn't pop off like on the fat lady on Total Recall "two weeks", see youtube for videos.

"Beam me up Scottie, there is no intelligent life down here". Of the billions of star formations in this universe, we are not alone!!!!!On the surface, we are a crazy bunch, so all others avoid us.
