It ''docks'' with the space station much like a boat ''docks'' at shore. It is secured to the space station and then a ''tube'' of sorts connects the two so that people can walk between them.

Parking in space is sooooo expensive.

The space shuttle is connected to the space station by an airlock system which connects the hatches. While you can say parked, the correct term is docked.

The shuttle does not park inside the station. It docks to the outside by using a special docking adapter in the cargo bay. The adapter attaches to the hatch in the shuttle cargo bay and to a hatch on the space station, making an airtight seal so both hatches can be opened and people can move from inside the shuttle to inside the station and back.
