I mean napoleon always gets the benefit of the doubt, there is a cartoon character in his honor, and even a cake. And yet he pretty much tried to do the same thing as hitler did. And yet hitler is portayed as this monster (deservatly so no question about it) but why is Napoleon off the hook?

Napoleon had the misfortune of losing, and as history shows, the winners write the histories.

The main difference between Hitler and Napoleon was the way to accomplish their goals. Both men wanted to control Europe, However Napoleon didn’t want to make Europe French, he was allowing the people to keep their faith’s and customs, so long as they obeyed him. Napoleon Had Polish, Dutch, Middle Eastern, Italian, German and French Forces under his command. He didn’t have this dream of a pure Europe.

Now what made Napoleon a villain was the fact that he wanted Europe to fall under his dominion, to lose its freedoms to his rule. Now the British and Russians rejected this, He became the Villain to their drives to retain their empires, to retain their freedom.

Napoleon was not the monster Hitler was (not saying he was a saint mind you), and most people generally acknowledge that fact. But at the end of the day it was the Brits who took the field so it is the British who wrote Napoleon’s history and made him the bad guy who wanted to conquer Europe.

Hitler is what makes Napoleon look like a well respected preschool teacher.
Plus Napoleon was actually intelligent. Not much in that arena I can say about Hitler. Oh, yeah Hitler's hair cut was Retarded with a capital 'R'. It's like he was on drugs or something....wait a second, HE WAS! Yeah and you know Napoleon was down.

Napolean was a military man of stradegy with a goal to do as the Romans did, he was a little kinky, obviously, but all and all he was not a monster who carried out the holocaust to the extreme. Napolean has never been compared to Hitler other than their height and the obsession of conquest. But to compare them is ignorant of the facts. So go to www.history.com and look up Napolean and then look up the closet queen Hitler and you will see the big difference everyone is trying to tell you in living color, there you can get audio/visual as well.

You know what is interesting. Napoleon originally was from Corsica, and he didn't like the French. Then he became one of their best leaders. Watch documentaries about him, as he loved his country (France) and did his best to save it. He is completely different than Hitler. Hitler in fact was for a pure race, and did HIS best to create the perfect race. Whereas, Napoleon was never about that, he was a leader within his commanding armies. You need to read more about him.. seriously.

Hi. Napoleon never tried to wipe out a single group of people. He simply wanted to conquer the world.

Read some history books again, and then try to rephrase a question. This only a suggestion.

Napolen and Hitler have not pretty much tried to do the same thing. The question does not stand.

Hitler's plan to exterminate a whole race of people guarantees him a 1st place in the evil hall of shame. He had no redeeming qualities. Napoleon had some redeemingf qualities but not many.

Hitler tried to commit genocide and spoke of a so-called pure race which is contradictive considering Germans are a mixture of many types of people.
He tried to systematically exterminate Jews, Gypsies, Jehovas Witnesses, Slavs and others.
If that doesn't make him a monster, than how about this, he organized experiments on how to exterminate people more efficiently by gassing mentally retarded people, mainly with carbon monoxide, instead of organizing more technical methods to care for them.

No Napoleon is never off the hook by virtue of the fact of a statement
he once made when asked while he was in captivity what drove him.. He was always driven by the next campaign.Had he not been poisoned he would not have stopped.
