I have worked for companies that do. The reason that most do not is because they are liable for you if they are paying you. If you were to be in an accident on your way to work they would have to fork up the workmans comp because you are legally "on the job" whenever you are receiving payment.

I think big business, office work should at least supplement transportation cost. You couldn't do that in the service industries, bars, restaurants, that's what tips are for.
Remember though any money you make, even a transportation supplement, is taxable and subject to Social Security.

No, but I wish someone would run a decent public transportation system which actually serves people who want to get between home and work. Until then I'll just drive though.

no, the company will somehow make it deductable from your wages. tax breaks car pooling ect..and the company directors will pocket the excess for themselves. you'll get minimum wage with a pay rise set at the inflation value for them doing you a favour! they'll profit out of your pocket. notice how many companies have shrubery outside the company railings, another tax break for "helping the environment".

Well my employer comes over and wakes me up, makes me coffee, two eggs over easy, and toast, and drives me to work and back.

Come on, that would be a perk a company would choose, or not, to get employees and keep them.

Hmmm...maybe I should get orange juice with the two eggs, toast, and coffee...
