First thing first,no sound from the CD player,error about the jack server not detected,and my mail page that keeps popping up a mail authentication failed,and connection to internet slow,thats just a start so please any advice I am no good at this new computer I had a 98 and I really am missing it so,I have called the linspire # no help and also my ISP no help ..

Try Ubuntu instead of linspire/linux 5.0. Seriously, I'm typing this on Ubuntu Edgy Eft.
Visit http://www.ubuntu.com.
If you do not want to change, check if linspire has forums. Also, are you using ALSA, ESD, OSS or what exactly for sound.
