In Michigan the answer is yes. In fact, in this state, the preferred counselors for drugs and alcohol are those who have been there and learned. The downside is that often they forget their own counsel and wind up in worse shape than they were before.

Yes you can. Most rehabilitation centers that are serious about what they are attempting to do (which is rehabilitate) would not consider employment of someone who had not walked in the shoes of those seeking help. The seriousness of your felony offense would have an impact on your employability. Anyone convicted of violent crimes would more than likely be refused employment. If your crime was of a non-violent nature then you have an excellent chance of being employable in this field.

The law may vary from state to state, but in Michigan the answer is yes......many of the counselors are recovering alcohol and drug abusers......they understand the disease better than anyone

Yes they can. Their relation to the life situation of the drug or alcohol abuser is worth more then any University degree in that field.
