I mean seriously--did you really think you were going to tell us how to run things and what to do for hundreds of years? Do you still regard us as your little brother, or have the butt kickings you endured over the years resigned you to your now second class position?

"...second class position"? Grow up little girl.

For your information the UK is one of the trillion dollar super economies of Western Europe. The London stock exchange is larger than all the European ones combined. The UK's unemployment rate is one of the lowest in Europe and British trade, finance and banking are some of the most powerful economic forces in the world.

Another little reality check for you - many 'Americans' fought WITH the British against other Americans during the Wars of Independence.

And besides, who do you think created those US colonies in the first place? The British.

I bet you are feeling rather silly now aren't you...?

The primary reason the American coloninsts rebelled was that they objected to having to pay taxes to Britain, while having no representation in Parliament. All other points weresecondary to that. Had Britain conceded this and allowed representation, there's no reason to think that America would have rebelled (at least not until the breakup of the British Empire in the mid C20).
Had Britain not been off dealing with Napoleon, the rebels would have had to face a well equipped, disciplined, experienced, professional army rather than the small garrison force they defeated. The outcome may well have been very different.

Why are you insulting the British, those people are dead anyway. What is it that you want to View the Dead Bodies Again?
Somewhere the war has got to end and it is Christmas, cant you think of something nice to say, like I love the Beatles, or the Rolling Stones or U2, they are all from the British Isles?
There are many British that were part of the battle here that were on our side. Lets bury the hatchets shall we, we have Iraq and Iran to worry about now, please say a prayer for our soldiers over there pretty please with sugar on top.

It was perfectly normal behaviour in those days . Just as the 20th century was the American Century so the 21 st century will be the Asian Century with China and India becoming the major forces in world politics instead of the USA so you may live to see your country decline to the status of a failed nation. There are already signs in New Orleans

the British never planned to keep their colonies *forever*....only as long as they were profitable.

yes, the British were audacious to maintain their colonies...not just in the Americas, but all over the world. and by the way, Britain's colonies in Asia (i.e. India) was FAR MORE IMPORTANT to Britain than the Americas ever were.

it is also audacious of America today to believe that it is the world's superpower and exert its hegemonic power upon the world's peoples

The way you pose the question shows that you have waaaaays to go before you (personally) can consider yourself a grown individual.

The time GB colonized other countries were the time when other contries did the same. It was the matter of who manages to take over more. I think GB got a lot out of it. It was never a matter of keeping it forever. It was a way of getting rich.

They are our allies though. And don't forget, the sun didn't set on the English empire at one time. History is interesting. But that question you asked is what makes us American, I just hope we don't lose that energy for our next war. I am afraid it will be a cultural one.
