My husband and I both grew up in the same town and I don't know anything about my father's side of the family. We have always joked with one another about finding out we are cousins or something.

I always tell him that I love him so much, it wouldn't matter...we would just not tell anyone!

If I absolutely and positively found out that we shared such close blood ties, I'd have no children with this man. If I wanted children, I would see a fertility place for a sperm donation. Children with closely related parents have a vastly higher incidences of birth defects, just as inbred dogs, horses, cats and everything else. But I'd still love him and still be his wife forever. I would be afraid to have a child with a problem, knowing that my selfishness resulted in that defect. I'd also much consider adopting -- probably an Asian or African child -- American, caucasian children given up for adoption toooooo often are drug babies, alcohol fetal syndrome babies etc.

If you have lived in the same all your life...........and you did happen to be related, there would be people that already know about this but haven't told you....believe me, the little old ladies know EVERYTHING!!!!!

If you wanted to find out ....get a DNA test done, or search for answers.

Dont have children until you know for sure though, as they could be born with abnormalities if you do end up being closely related.

Go out for a night of very strong drinks and hope I did not wake up in the morning and have to face the truth.

Sadly, it's usually not up to you. Every time i've heard of something like this happening, it wasn't the couple that found out, but a member of one of the families. After that, you're kind of stuck with breaking it off, sad as it is.

But yeah, if nobody found out but us, I'd keep my mouth shut too.

We're ALL incredibly far-removed cousins anyway. What's the problem? :P lol

I mean, come on. We ARE related to chimps in an incredibly obscure way (not that we should MARRY them by any stretch... <:P lol).

I would check the local laws and consult with the church and family members alike. Their opinions and/or judgements would weigh heavy on the decission I would have to make.

It would be a funny thing to share at family reunions. We can't be as close as cousins and not know it, so it really doesn't matter. I thing it would be great.

If you are 3rd cousins, then there isn't any problem. The closer related you are could complicate your children. They could come out alright or not. Inbreeding isn't good.
