30 days past the p/u date but sometimes as long as 6 mos. then they sell them or donate to a charity. I've gotten nice formals and dress clothes for the cost of the cleaning.

It depends on where you go, usually they will keep it for 15 buisness days. They do not throw them away, but usually give them to Savation Army or any other local charity. Most places will follow by similar guildlines. The best thing to do is ask next time you are there. If you moved or something after leaving it somewhere. Call them and ask for it to be shipped. Most places will do that but for a pretty large amount of money. If you haven't picked up an item yet, I would suggest going there before it is too late!!!

Most reputable cleaners will hold on for over 30-60 days if you are a good customer, it should be no problem.
I worked at one in Missouri and we never got rid of them, the staff got first pick after a year, and then the rest would stay on a rack in the back room.
I think alot of cleaners that do not have the storage will sell items or donate after 30 days, you might call and see if your will hold them for you. Worth a long distance call!

Shouldn t these places do a courtesy call before discarding peoples clothes? I dropped my formal dress to the cleaners after a wedding 6 months ago but because I haven t had any formal events I completely forgot about my dress...I take full responsibility however, If you haven t heard from me or I haven t picked up my clothes, the professional thing to do is to call your customer. Its business etiquette before you discard someone elses belongings. I will be demanding a refund of my entire dress if they still cant find my dress. That is not okay!

It should say on the ticket (usually it is 30days), but in my experience, I think they just put that there to say that they are not responsible for them after that period of time. I have picked up stuff 3 months later. Once though, I was behind a woman who came in for a gown she had cleaned 6 months prior and they were looking, but could not find it. They told her that it was there somewhere, but because it was so long it was no longer in the computer system and it would take time to find it. She was mad, cuz she needed the dress for the next day. I lacked any sympothy for her.

I think 30 days is the standard amount of time. You might want to call and leave a message for them letting them know that you forgot and telling them when you intend to pick them up. Explain that you're out of town and that should make things all ok. :)
Merry Christmas!

I went back about four months when I had forgottena coat and they had set it aside. It's not like they had hundred's of thing's that are left there. Legally though I believe they only have an obligation of 30 days and you forfeit your clothing. I would check. your clothes are probably still there. '-)

Hello,
normally Dry Cleaners will keep your clothes for 30 day. After this period, they will not be responsible.
