Yes, a 9600 Pro/XT is about twice as fast as an MX 440. Of course, a 9600XT is still dog slow; it's just faster than any MX.

It is, but not by much. You should consider at least a Radeon 1xxx series or Geforce 6xxx/7xxx series, assuming you are a gamer.
