Does anyone feel like I do? I love the atmosphere of Christmas, the tree at night, baking cookies , the music etc, however, this year I have had enough. My step daughter complaining that the 7 presents we bought are grandchild is not enough, the running around , the expense, rude people. What happened to the true meaning of the holiday? How many of you would like to see the one nice gift per child and a stocking full of goodies, a day together playing a nice board game, looking at photos, a nice meal and unity, instead of the kids sitting in front of a video game or computer all day?

I hear you loud and clear on this one.

I have found it very hard this year finding my Christmas spirit. I think a lot of my problem is that it starts so early in the year nowadays. The summer holidays come to an end and 'hey presto' the Christmas stock is on the shop floor.
Children aren't stupid and they have no real sense of time, so they start on at you from September onwards about what they want etc. The adverts on the TV don't help and are always shown at prime time for children to see.

I am very traditional and I have a very traditional Christmas which includes family games, lots of food and plenty of merriment. The children have their main presents but they are only allowed to choose 2 main ones. the rest have to be a surprise and it doesn't matter what they get, they love the gifts.

This year money has been very tight so my children and I have made all of our presents and we have enjoyed doing it together. They have ranged from Knitted scarves to tile painting and I know for a fact my family will love the gifts because they have come from the heart and are so personal. That to me is what Christmas is all about..... giving out of love, not to recieve more presents!!

I wish you and your family all the best for Christmas and the new year x

Yes it has.....and yes I do. I have talked with more people that said they can't wait till it's all over. I have lots of responsiblity on my shoulders....and this Christmas is just another added 'burden' I have to bare. And we are in the process of changing apatio into a new living room. Trying to get it done before Monday. Not sure that gonna happen. But I am just extremly tired and worn out this year...and it's just not any fun.
I can't wait till New Years Eve...to curl up in bed and watch tv...not having to think about 'tomorrow.'
Excuse me...I think I need a drink! ;)

I'm with you. Sadly, so many people apparently enjoy "giving" so much that they turn into hateful monsters. Crazy, isn't it? Get out of my way! I have to give things to people I love!

I've said more than one thing to people in stores this Christmas. I've flipped off my share of rude drivers. I'm just tired of the rudeness. This probably perpetuates the attitude, but I'm just sick of it.

I just want one Christmas where my boyfriend and I stay home, exchange two presents each, make cookies at home together, and relax. Just once!

Instead, we have to pack two Christmases into two days despite them being held three hours apart.

I'm supposed to be wrapping right now, and I don't want to! It's my weekend off! I want to enjoy it! GAH!

I feel the same way and I am a kid myself, I see my little cousin always asking if I bought her a present and how many. I told her thats not what Christmas is about, it's about our family comming in from all around the country to be with eachother and thats the way it should be! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU!

yeah something is wrong with society Christmas has become about getting yours before the other guy gets his. And the more kids get the more they want even though they get spoiled throughout the year anyways. But people only do what they can get away with

Absolutely! It's funny too on top of the things you mentioned that you also talk to people all year long that are barely making their bills etc... but at Christmas they still go all out.

I see your point. However, you cannot stop progress. The Christmas of old is gone, unless you relocate to an Amish-like community and be hated by your family. You can also convert to Jehovah's Witness ....and still be hated by your whole family.
