Like, it's totally easier than you'd think. First you need a recording utility on your computer. Real Player is a free player and is at www.real.com I have used it in the past and been very pleased with the results. Real will give you a straight transfer, more or less, that will give you the same sound as listening to the LP. What you do is find your best turntable (or only one, if that's the case) and plug one end of an audio cable (you can buy them at Radio Shack, depends what kind on the size of your turntable's plug, but most likely you'll need a 1/8 in to 1/8 in cable with a 1/8 in to 1/4 in adapter, this stuff isn't too expensive) into the headphones jack and the other into your computer's Line In or Microphone Jack. You may have to play around a little with equalizer settings on turntable and computer, but eventually you'll end up with pretty good sound. As far as I know, this is completely legal, too, as you, the purchaser, are allowed to make a back-up copy for personal use, etc.

The program I use is called Adobe Audition (formerly Cool Edit Pro.), You need a turntable, with a preamp, and a sound card with a line input. Adobe Audition will also allow you to "clean up" the sound, before you make your cd's.
