Divorce laws vary by state. What state are you in. For example, in Texas, another option is through mediation. Sometimes handled by a lawyer. Works great and is MUCH cheaper than a lawyer. A lawyer can cost thousands and thousands, which is a silly waste of money if you aren't Bill Gates and wife, and are arguing over small change.

You may want to check out counseling first if you haven't already done so... what is the REAL scoop here?

did you catch him cheating or is there a long simmering dissolution happening. what is at stake? financially and other wise? big issues tend to money...(house, IRA's, businesses, investments) and kids (visitation, decision making) etc..

mediate on this, and let us know what state you are in (laws, rights are different in Alaska or Oklahoma...)

Well you found this page on the internet to ask the question. So go online and read up on the divorce act for your residence (US - State or Canada).
In Canada the laws vary depending on the province. I am going through me second divorce and now it is even easier because I can do most of it myself online - just take the signed noterised pages to the court to file and it goes from there. The cost in Canada ranges but it looks like about $500.00 dollars for me.

get the book.. depending where you live. I had a very simple Divorce. no kids and no assets.
"How to do your own divorce in California" was very helpful. I think they have it for every state.
I did my own divorce,no lawyers,!!
But if you have kids or assets, house, etc you may want to consult a lawyer; however, if you can work it out with a mediator you will be better off.

Find a good lawyer and fill out the papers with him. Pay the filing fee and you are on your way to a divorce.

You want to divorce because your not loved the way you want to be loved. You are not treated the way you want to be treated. Your not having fun. Your miserable.
Now how do I know all of this....???

Because if you were a hotty, he would of instilled this in you, but unfortunately, you ended up with a Cockroach instead of a Man.

Go see an attorney, hon. problem solved. If you and your soon-to-be-ex agree on how you wish to split your things, see a mediating attorney (Look in the Yellow Pages) -- he represents you both, fills out the papers, and files them at the county court house. cost is ~ $75-300.

Try to find the website for the county you live in. Type divorse in the search box. Some have divorse info there. Good luck.
