First there is no draft so you don't have top worry about that.
Second you can still go in the military, you just will NOT be sent into a battle zone.

My cousin was an only male child and went into the Marines back during the Vietnam war. He wanted to go to Vietnam but the Military wouldn't allow it because he was an ONLY MALE child. He literally had to get a note from his mother giving her approval and a Congressman had to give his permission.

So it actually took an act of Congress and a note from his Mommie. LOL

Ya know what, thats a good question. When my husband joined the Army, his brother is in the air force, and we were told if both were in Iraq and one was killed, the other would be brought home. As for being an only child....i dont know how the draft if re enstated would effect you. Interesting question...i hope someone on here gives you a right answer, otherwise call the local recruiting office in your town and ask.

There is no draft; there will be no draft. And no, this is not true, even if there was a draft. You must sign up for selective service at 18, regardless of the number of brothers/sisters you have.

NOT TRUE

There currently is no Military Draft in the U.S. When there was a draft, being an only child did not prevent you from being drafted.

It is supposed to mean that if you are an only child and are sent into combat and are killed you will be the end of your line. So, they don't draft only children unless there are special circumstances like maybe you can shoot the eye of a gnat out at a thousand yards with a 20 mph crosswind and no spotter.

pfft. That's a lie. Every boy that turns 18 is up for draft. But they're not having the draft right now, so no worries.

The draft run during the Vietnam era had an "only son" exemption, but the current version does not. You're going to war unless you're physically/mentally unable, qualify for conscientious objector status, or openly homosexual.

OK, this is the way it works. When we do have a draft if your the sole surviving son of a father who was killed in war or died while in the military, you still are subject to serve in the armed services but are exempt from serving in a war zone

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. ALL MEN ARE REQUIRED TO REGISTER FOR THE DRAFT WHEN THEY TURN 18. However currently there is NO DRAFT.

if you were born 40 years ago the draft is no longer, but if it was you would still be drafted and the you would be station in a safe zone away from the line.
