Hormones. The good thing is that you can help.
Exercise (a daily walk for 20 minutes) can help lift depression, change hormone levels, raise endorfin levels - basically make you feel better.
Drinking more water can help keep your body in balance in all senses of the word.
Avoiding carbohydrates (breads, rice, potatoes, sugars) can help you feel better too.
If you are on the pill or another version (patch, nuvaring etc) of birth control talk to your doctor about the mood swings.
If none of this helps talk to your doctor... there are some hormone therapies that she can prescribe that you can take a few days before your period. Or even a light anti-depressant depending on what else is going on...
I hope this helps - The water, carb & exercise stuff is usually where I start, it's amazing how much that helps. But if it's not enough - it's not enough. Then you go to the doc. Take care of yourself.

You may have a problem called PMS (Pre Menstral Syndrome--it can be there before, during or a few days after your period). The symptoms include: unusual mood swings, crying for no reason, etc. I'm not diagnosing you, only recommending something for you to try OTC for POSSIBLE relief: "Pamprin" or "Mydol". If you don't see improvement after 7-10 days, see your doc for further help. It could change your life and make life better for you.

Most likely because your hormones are going crazy and messing with your brain. Given that, it's also possible that you might be treating people in a less than civil manner... you might have to check with people on that last one, but it's always a possibility. More likely than not, though, you're just suffering from hormonal imbalance and feeling vulnerable.
