Well said. No matter how many times this is mentioned (including kindly asking folks to post any pertinent info about the recipient), everyone turns a blind/ignorant eye to it.
My guess is that these folks have no human interaction with who they're asking about. What a person likes, dislikes, is into, etc is simple basic common knowledge to those around them. If they did know anything about them and have regular interaction, they would not be asking strangers because they would already know.
Last minute shopping has nothing to do with it since these have been posted daily since before the Christmas season even started in Nov.

Yes, if it's this late and they haven't figured out by now what to get their so called "loved one" by now - why bother? Why ask except they want to see what others might respond. I could see if it was a question about a stranger - like what the consensus is...but for someone you love - you should have had that gift before now.

People are turning to Yahoo! Answers for advice and inspiration. It is the Holiday Season - a time during which people believe that they have to get and give presents and gifts to those they know and love. Plus Christmas is less than two days away and people are becoming desperate.

This might be due to our hyper-consumerism. People already have so much STUFF that it is hard for their dear ones to think of something they don't have.
Last year, my mom wrote up a family memory and printed it out in a nice script and gave each of us a copy of it. I'll treasure it always.
Remember that love doesn't come from a store!

People are lazy. Many of them don't like to think. Other people think only in circles, so asking someone else can get them out of that rut.

Yeah, if they aren't happy with whatever gifts you give them, then tell them not to look forward to gifts from you next year.

I agree. They should ask them what they want and buy it for them. It doesn't have to be a surprise.

Desperation. If they're asking this late, they obviously have no idea what to get them.
