Yes you can. You may have to have a parent or other adult be on the account also. Just go to the bank with some money - you probably need at least $50 to open an account.

By himself, a 13 year old cannot have an account...they won't open one to a minor. However, they can open it for the adult and place the teen's name on the account. Some banks have a minimum amount that you can open with, but usually....they have no minimum for their "young" accounts. I opened one for my son and they called it their "Looney Toon" account. He just had a few hundred dollars to start. Call the local bank and ask to speak with an account executive and they will tell you all about it. Oh, and ask them if they have a higher yield account for you. If you agree not to touch the money for awhile, you can earn more interest on it.
