I have a 2 month old and I was wondering when I should start using the level 2 nipples on him. For now, he is using level one - that came with the 2 and 4 oz bottles. He wants to have more than 4 oz at times and I am using the bigger 8 oz bottles. So, when do I start the level 2 nipples? and then level 3? and ofcourse what is c and y style nipples? I wish the package said what ages for what levels...anyway, can someone help me out?? Thanks!!

You should start the second stage when your baby can hold his head up on his own. This usually occurs around 4 months of age. The third stage should be started around 6 months when they can sit up. When you start with a more advanced stage of nipple watch the baby and make sure the baby is handling it okay. If he chokes or looks a little blue or overwhelmed, wait a week and try again.

Most nipples run from
0-3 months for level 1 ( slow)
3-6 months for level 2( medium)
6-9 months for level 3 (fast)
these all have to do with the size of the opening on the top of the nipple and some the size of the nipple themselves
The amount of formula and the size of the nipple are only relative in how old the baby is ..
You baby may want more than 4 oz but still use the slow nipples due to the intake of the fluid ( so not to choke on it) and give him the 8 oz ( but don't force it on him, if he decides he does not want the whole 8 let him drink however much it is) just make sure to keep him on a schedule, and monitor his diapers poopy, wet and what not
And there are alot of baby websites out there, babycenter, babyzone, platex, evenflo,... they can give you more indepth answers and make good reading material ( I am on my 2nd baby in feb and I re -read all babywebsites )
Hope my answer helped :)

Try him on the nipples... if it's too much flow, go back to Stage 1 and try again in a few weeks. I switched my baby around 2-3 months without a problem, but a friend of mine, her 8 month old still can't handle the fast flow nipples.

It's all trial and error (okay well maybe not error necessarily)

I think it is 4 or 6 months, however it should tell you on the package or Dr. Browns website.

My daughter is 2 1/2 months and I am already using the stage 2 nipples because I am having to mix ceral in her formula, but if I giver her a bottle without ceral then I use the stage one. The best way to tell is if you are feeding and the formula is running down his chin then the nipple size is too big and you should stick with the smaller size.
