I bought a new DVD Writer, and then found out from the box that it wants a processor speed of 1.3 GHz (or greater), but my speed is only 733 MHz maximum.

All the other System Req's seem to be met OK.

Will the Writer still work and, if so, what are the implications of using it below speed.?

Or should I try and return it for a refund?

Your guidance and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

(If you need further info, I'll put it as an edit to the Q.)

I think I need to know if half the required processor speed (ie 733MHz rather than 1.3GHz) will merely half the maximum burn speeds for different types of files and disks (eg 24x instead of 48x for writing CD-R's, etc), or is there a different ratio, if any?

Alternatively, are there any help-sites that give idiot-proof advice on DVD versus PC processor limitations?

You'll probably get buffer underruns due to the slowness of you PC. If you record at a slow rate, you should be okay. You may eventually want to spring for something made this century.

your cpu is not fast enough to burn the dvd's withut errors making the disc unreadable.

however your ram is what will most affect the finished discs, if this meets or exceeds the minimum requirements then you may get away with burning at the slowest speed with some success.
