Can someone explain why being "open minded" is such a glorious thing?

Look at all the junk today. You want to be open to all of it...go ahead.

I was open minded...landed me in jail. I was open to the idea that maybe drugs weren't so bad....maybe selling them is ok too......

I am happy to say if something doesn't line up with the word of G-d, I am closed to it. I will politely say "yeah, uh-huh" and disregard it.

Don't most stick to their beliefs anyhow even the "open minded" ?

I'm just being honest.

Plus G-d works on the heart and Satan can only enter through the mind. That is my belief, I know its not everyone's.

So isn't it better to be closed minded and open hearted??

Open minded means listening, not necessarily doing. You need to have enough common sense not to do something wrong or stupid. I have been down the same road you have and I believe that God is great. You have to be open minded to be able to change and grow in God. How can you relate to non christians and be able to witness to them in this world today if your not open to change? Closed minded is doing the same old things day in and day out not changing.

I think the idea of being "open-minded" needs to be taken in stride and not taken literally. Rather than making your life dedicated to being open-minded, you should be that way when the times call for it. For example, if you're working in a group and someone comes up with an idea that you don't immediately like, being open-minded about it might disprove your immediate dislike! You just need to decide when the appropriate time is to be open-minded. Other times, its very important to stick to your beliefs and rememeber who you are. If you become TOO open-minded, having so many outside influences can change who you are rather than make you a better person. (Just my opinion!) :)

When you say that God works on the heart and satan works on the mind, what do you mean? Aren' t they one in the same? God had to give it to the mind in order for it to penetrate the heart. If your mind was not opened then you wouldn't believe in God to begin with.

hmmmm...no I don't see your point but I do think you're quite irritated with the fact people are open minded to new/different ideas. Doing drugs and selling them is the best example you have? please...that's not being open mined; it's flat out stupidity.

There is a difference between being open minded and doing something stupid like putting poison into your body. Don't blame that one on open mindedness, you screwed up buddy.

I think of being open-minded is more about being open to other possibilities. I don't think it means not using good judgment or listening to your gut feelings on whether or not something is good for you.

Being open minded doesn't require that you stop using good judgment. There is a happy medium between "never try anything new" and "do anything."

that isn't what being open minded means. it means u think creatively, and what u did isn't thinking creatively it is doing things that r against the law.

open-minded means to think for yourself, to consider the pro's and con's,,,,,, it doesnt mean open to everything, nor to trying everything,,,,,, nor does it mean not having firm closed beliefs on certain issues,,,,,,, another part of it, is acceptance, of the beliefs others have,,,,, you are open to their individuality,,, even if you dont share their views,,,,, as long as it harms no one,,,, i wouldnt apply doing drugs as being open-minded,, actually you closed your mind to the negatives of it,,,,
