Look at all the junk today. You want to be open to all of it...go ahead.

I was open minded...landed me in jail. I was open to the idea that maybe drugs weren't so bad....maybe selling them is ok too......

I am happy to say if something doesn't line up with the word of G-d, I am closed to it. I will politely say "yeah, uh-huh" and disregard it.

Don't most stick to their beliefs anyhow even the "open minded" ?

I'm just being honest.

Plus G-d works on the heart and Satan can only enter through the mind. That is my belief, I know its not everyone's.

So isn't it better to be closed minded and open hearted??

David

But being open minded you can also like God too...Being open minded doesn't mean you have to try drugs or weird sexual things or anything like that.

It means you won't judge something just because other people say it's bad. Lots of people say God is bad or isn't real...It doesn't bother me...I understand that people are the way they are and I don't judge them, whatever their belief is.

Some people think cheese is the most wonderful food in the world...while I don't personally think so...I don't hate them for it...you see where I'm going?

The lyrics "there are none so blind, as he who will not see..." pop into my head when I hear questions like yours. Do you really want to know or are you in denial, rationalizing, or making excuses? Having an open mind is NOT what landed you in jail. Getting caught doing something someone believes should be illegal did. One has nothing to do with the other. (If you're not still in jail be thankful as the penalties for dealing can be steep.) Whether drugs should even be illegal is a whole other subject. Are you so sure exactly what the Word is that you can afford to close your mind to all new revelations and thoughts?

Open minded doesn't mean being gullible or foolish or 'open' to trying new things that are bad for you.

You should have instincts and good enough judgement to know that is right and what is wrong.

Being open minded means considering other people's points of views rather than just poo-pooing them.

Mind you some things are plain stupid and don't deserve a second thought. But when it comes to something like considering who is telling the truth, understanding cultural differences, religious differences, etc. it means just listening and THEN making up your mind.

Some people won't even bother...they are like horses with blinders on, and are plain scared and won't consider anything outside the teeny tiny world they live in.

I understand what you're saying though about being closed minded and open hearted...and I think I agree with where you are coming from with that.

Be generous, but don't be fooled into something you know isn't right.

Open Minded, to me means, you are simply a subject, which allows any suggestion of society, as in the medical field, now, they use the power of suggestion, that some new drug will make you happy, be stronger, even forget bad memories, but the reality is that you are right, it is better to be closed minded and open hearted, therefore you will not become a subject again.

For falling in to jail, was only the first step to a higher learning, no university could ever get you ready for what you went through.
The knowledge you gained, it is only for you, for the good for yourself.

Being open minded doesn't mean you have to stop making choices and just blindly go along with whatever is presented.

Being open minded is a great characteristic of a person. It allows them to stretch their minds, their beliefs and allows them to imagine what it might be like to be in someone else's shoes. Being open-minded means you haven't stopped growing and learning and absorbing information which, as we know, changes all the time.

How can you close your mind and say, "That's it. I know everything." ?

I find it contradictory to have a closed mind and an open heart. If you aren't open to taking information in, I don't know how your heart could be either. I think it's better to simply be open to possibilities.

Open mindedness doesn't preclude common sense. Open mindedness involves objectivity, realism and patience. Open mindedness doesn't mean you jump at every new thing that comes down the pike. Open minded involves willingness to change when change is needed, but also knowing when to stop.
Open mindedness allows one to examine a situation dispassionately, and I am willing to guess that you were not dispassionate in your decision to use narcotics. Your explanation about the heart and mind is inaccurate and fraught with danger.
God works in both areas, we allow Satan access to those areas. Your idea of open mindedness is perverse, and the results show that to be true. You obviously didn't consider the long term results, but chose to enjoy the immediate and baser joys. Being closed minded is just as hazardous, because it involves an unwillingness to be objective and to change. You need to redefine open mindedness.

No it is all in one. Mind, Soul, Spirit, Body, Heart, and all, is one thing. To be open minded and not open hearted is mixed up.
There has to be a balance, like Solomon. It is only wise to analyze the situation with an open feeling, meaning unbiased.
But always guard your convictions and stand firm on your beliefs, that way you are being analytical. To weigh things out is the only way to judge anything. Remember to be fair that is all you need to do, and if you feel you are biased, walk away to fight another day.

Open minded does not mean, as you suggest, to do any fool thing that anyone tells you to do. It means that you should not automatically refuse to think about anything because you have been trained not to.

Open-minded means listen to what others say, then investigate the pros and cons of action or inaction based on a rational thought process.

Being open-minded means being able to think about ideas that you may think opposite from yours or the truth, not automatically accepting everything. You should be both open-minded and open-hearted. They go along quite well.

It's better to be open-minded. It's nice to be able to see other people's points of view. If you're closed minded, then it will be a bit hard to get by in the world. You need to be able to understand other people's views and motives.
