Driving under the influence of alcohol is illegal in Australia. There is a limit to how much alcohol is allowed to be in a persons blood stream when they are at the wheel(this includes being in a parked car).
This is determined by a "breath test", the police will ask you to take a deep breath and blow into the tester. This will give an instant reading.
If you are above .05% of alcohol in your blood stream, then you may not just be booked on the spot. But taken back to the police station were you may be required to have a further blood test.
This test (the breath test )now acts for drugs as well.
The penalties are rightfully increasing, as is our road toll.
A probationary driver, that is someone who has held a license under two years, will be automatically disqualified from driving.
The penalties are usually cancellation of the driving licence and a heavy fine for 1st offence. a It increases if caught again.
Causing an accident, damaging others property, injuring or killing someone while under the influence of alcohol or drugs while driving, can result in a considerable jail term, up to 10yrs.
In Australia a person may not obtain their licence until they are 18 and this is also the legal age that you can drink alcohol.

It is illegal in any country.
if it was only illegal in the US, other countries would have a large immagration problem especially Canada.
Lots of Americans seem to choose Canada as their favorite foreign country to move to.
Well also, any country that wouldn't have illegal drunk driving would have a lot of bad drivers.

Its totally illegal inmost countries, and so it should be - but the punishments vary from place to place. My 4 yr old cousin was killed by a drunk driver and the punishment was a fine!! I'm in ireland and I think we should be advocating public hangings for drunk drivers!!

whether that's a chum of yours one is in basic terms too many. Ameicans have not have been given any rights anymore and our government dictates you will settle for the misery of unlawful immigration by using fact we are the goverment. people are no longer from now on in can charge of our very own destiny yet are pandering to the international out of political correctness. I beleive that our united states of america is in massive subject and would end of being larger mess than Ole Mexico if we enable this style to proceed. Illegals could bypass by way of a skill of criminal immigration or we are no longer from now on a rustic. In Dallas,Texas there have been 11,071 toddlers of ilegal mexicans born in Parkland well being midsection.
