Why do the liberals and the conservatives annoy you? Do you belong to any group or are you just a free thinker and a free spirit?
I love both groups, but I can't stand the name calling and demeaning remarks both groups make about the other group. I think it's completely unnecessary. Why can't we just say what we think in a respectful manner? Each group feels the need to dehumanize and demonize the other group as if the other group is incarnate evil. Is this really the truth? I think each group has their pros and cons - no group has a monopoly on truth and justice.
Let's here all opinions and ideas with intelligence, honor, justice and respect for all.

Currently, about twenty percent of Americans identitfy themselves as conservatives. A roughly equal number identify themselves as liberals or progressives. Thus, a full 60% of the country falls somewhere in the middle. Unfortunately, this 60% makes up a largely silent majority. They average person doesn't get heard because he or she doesn't speak very loudly. In an age of instant media, the squeaky wheel gets the ratings. A moderate voice may make more sense, but it's just not as entertaining as Bill O'Reilly or Michael Moore.
Traditionally, politicians have needed the middle sixty percent to get elected, so campaign strategy was to lean towards the middle. Unfortunately, as voter turnout has decreased, politicians have realized that they can get elected merely by getting more of their base to show up at the polls. Election strategy is now geared towards angering people at the political extremes into voting. The majority of Americans are left out of the process.
The 2006 congressional elections, however, showed a sign of hope. In most cases where an incumbant was overturned, voters brought in a more moderate candidate, regardless of that candidate's political party. The American middle seems to be showing signs of stirring. We can only hope...

What has been happening was predicted by many people, long ago:
"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross." --Sinclair Lewis, 1935
"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." -- James Madison
"The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become the instruments of tyranny at home." -– James Madison
"Liberty may be endangered by the abuse of liberty, but also by the abuse of power." -- James Madison
"I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations." -- James Madison
"As nightfall does not come all at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all must be most aware of change in the air - however slight - lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness."
-- Justice William O. Douglas
Fascism - "A system of government that exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, typically through the merging of state and business leadership, together with belligerent nationalism." ( American Heritage Dictionary )
"Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifist for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country."
Hermann Goering, Hitler's Reich-Marshall
at the Nuremberg Trials after WWII
“How fortunate for leaders that men do not think." - Adolf Hitler
"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.
We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together."
Dwight D. Eisenhower, January 17, 1961

Yes, I am sick and tired of both liberals and conservatives as well. I believe that most people in the USA hold a variety of political views and cannot be labeled as either one. In other words, I believe that most Americans have both liberal and conservative viewpoints.

Yes, I do. That's why I became an Independent years ago. We sorely need a third party, one that will represent mainstream America and stand in the middle ground, not one extreme or the other.

While i am more sympathetic to the liberal side, yes i am tired of both parties. the two party system needs to stop, it doesnt cover enough of the views of other people. these people are then forced to join one of the two, that they dont completely agree with. and for the record, i would most likely be a republican if the relgious evengelical psychos hadnt hijacked the f%&)ing party.

Dude welcome to the real world, power is what power is, in the human condition it is often used unwise. Stand for the things that are true in your heart. Be true to your own heart, it is truely all that you have.
