I have created a website that I don't want anyone to be able to find in a search engine like google or yahoo or whatever. I only want to tell certain people where it is instead of setting up a password protected site because that seems too complicated. I do not have any meta tags. Are there any other steps I can take to make sure no one can find my website through a search engine?

Use this meta tag as your only tag and it should help a ton:

This tells them not to index your site and not to follow any links.

A robots.txt file placed in the root of your web server with the following:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /

If you prefer you can target specific engines as follows:

User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: /

For Google:

For Yahoo:

For MSN:

Keep in mind whenever you want the site spidered you leave the robots text file's Disallow option as empty. and To block all pages you use Disallow: /, to block only certain pages you use Disallow: page.html or Disallow: /pages/

Meta Tags will work as well, but the robots.txt file is more commonly used.

To remove an existing page see the tutorial here, which works for static pages as well as proxy issues:

A simple method to at least make it lower in the standings is to make all of your text in .jpg images instead of searchable text. I know that some websites I WANT to visit are almost impossible to find because of this feature.

It also works for the blasted spam which ends up in my inbox because the spam is a .jpg.

Put a robot txt that tells the robots not to list your site!
