Ok I'm sick of hearing this on the news and from so many agencies. Everyone is spouting off their mouths talking about the dangers of SHS but I have yet to see any proof. Seriously this isn't about smoking, I don't think smoking is good I'm just tired of idiots who believe whatever they are told without thinking a little for themselves. Prove it's bad and get 10 points.. Shouldn't be so hard with as many people as I've seen on here talking about the dangers of it.

1.) If SHS kills thousands of people each year like is claimed name 3
2.) Exactly how many chemicals are found in SHS and in what amounts, they don't seem to want to let all of this information out for some reason saying there is no safe level but anyone with any intellegence knows the dose makes the poison. Exactly what chemical is in SHS that can easily become unsafe from being exposed to even a minute amount, so minute that they can make the claim that there is no safe level?
3.) Why is there no OSHA requirments?

No NO NO! I didn't ask for comments about what you have been told I said prove it. Use your brain if you actually have one and think it through for yourself. If you know anything about poisons and toxins you will know it's the dose that makes the poison yet they try to say there is no safe level of SHS. That isn't possible if the dose makes the poison there must be a safe level. Sounds like propaganda, so tell me what's the thing that makes it so unsafe? How is it less safe than say car exhaust, hairspray, the chemicals that can commonly be found in drinking water, or the smoke you inhale from a campfire/cooking out on the grill?

Ok saying SHS contains xxx and xxx and they are dangerous chemicals doesn't answer the question. Again I say think for yourself a little, salt is a poison if you take too much of it at once, asprin can be deadly if you take too much at once, the fumes from bleach can be dangerous if too much is inhaled and on and on. It's not if SHS is dangerous, at what level does it become unhealthy. Someone already posted a link saying there was "no safe level" that is impossible there are safe levels to any toxin. If dose makes the poison there how can there be no safe level? I'm asking people to think and stop quoting the propaganda. I'm not trying to stop smoking bans, I agree with them for other reasons but I don't believe everything I'm told either. Before answering use some critical thinking please!

What makes Second Hand Smoke dangerous? Human Psychology. This Question is posted in the correct Category.

Some of the same people who throw a fit about SHS do not seemed to be bothered sitting in a traffic jam and sucking in chemicals that are far more dangerous.

By chemical composition, human flatulence is more toxic, but I never heard of a Restaurant needing a No Farting Zone.

It is currently socially acceptable to be a war with smoking. Many of the so called scientific studies promoting the evils of SHS are being done by people who need an enemy to fight which is socially acceptable.

There is no safe level for human ignorance. Ignorance kills more people every year than all other causes combined. I have yet to see any laws about exposure to second hand ignorance. Kind of makes one wonder.

Sorry, I can not prove that SHS is "bad." Smoking and even SHS may not be the healthiest activity, but science still does not know why every smoker does not die of lung cancer, only some. It cannot explain the "Placebo effect" either.

Ideas on SHS have turned into a belief system. It does not need to be backed by science, just belief. This is the root of Mind over Matter.

Here is a great link. It's from the Surgeon General of the United States. It has all of the answers you are looking for, with the exception of the OSHA requirement.

In addition, OSHA has taken up the issue of smoking in the workplace. It just hasn't gotten anywhere with it. See the second link for more information

Secondhand smoke is defined as the smoke which is exhaled by the smoker plus the smoke created by the smoldering of a lit cigarette. Secondhand smoke is full of toxins, and is dangerous to anyone who breathes it in.

It would seem to me that anyone who questions the dangers of second hand smoke is either trying to justify not banning smoking in public places or really has not thought about and researched the issue very much.

How dangerous is second-hand smoke?
Second-hand smoke is poisonous and has over 4000 chemicals, including 50 that can cause cancer. Breathing second-hand smoke can be more dangerous than inhaling smoke through a cigarette. It has twice as much nicotine and tar as the smoke that people smoking inhale and five times more carbon monoxide, a deadly gas that starves your body of oxygen.

Other chemicals found in second-hand smoke include:

Benzo[a]pyrene found in coal tar, one of the most potent cancer-causing chemicals.
Formaldehyde used to preserve dead animals.
Hydrogen cyanide used in rat poison.
Ammonia used to clean floors and toilets.
