Does anyone know? There's this joke between my friend and I that she's the princess of France...and it's a really long story but I told her I would find out who really rules France. I can't figure it out so, anyone know?

The 5th French Republic rules France. Most of the French royalty got executed during their Revolution. It would be bad to be the princess of France; you could end up dead!

I am a French national.

The people of France rule the country, and are represented by a legislative body and President. There hasn't been a French monarch in over a century.

There are descendants of the French Royal family still alive today, and are considered by some royalists to be the rightful rulers of France.

Some consider Don Luis Alfonso Gonzalo Víctor Emanuel Marco de Borbón y Martínez-Bordiú, Duke of Anjou to be King Louis XX. Others consider Henri Philippe Pierre Marie d'Orléans, comte de Paris, duc de France to be King Henry VI or VII. Still others who feel the Bonaparte family the rightful rulers consider Charles Marie Jérôme Victor Napoléon Bonaparte, whose great-great-great uncle was Napoléon I to be Emperor Napoléon VII of France.

They are a parliamentary democracy with a president. Pretty much the same as the US in the sense that the power is divided. I guess to your friend, the ruler is Jacques Chirac (the current president)
