If you are setting up a fresh water aquarium you can try African Cichlids, they come in many different species and are very beautiful. If you are setting up a saltwater aquarium I would recommend a Lion fish, they are very striking and hardy, but they do eat any fish that can fit in its mouth. Each fish I have recommended do show personalities, you won't get that with the smaller school fish such as neons or other smaller fish.

If you have a lot of experience keeping fish then a pair of german Rams are exactly what you need. The blues are the most beautiful freshwater fish there are IMO. But they are not a beginers fish.

You must know how to take care of the fish first. You can get one Arrowana - but remember to know the "do & don't" . Take note that the fish grow very fast. I bought one in Jan this year when it was only 11cm and now it has become 35cm. Hopefully able to find him another bigger home in next year.

Happy brewing!

Lion fish... beautiful (cuz it's got spectacular coloration & neat looking spines) ... exciting (cuz it's poisonous & deadly) ... Oh wait - darn ... Lion fish are salt water critters. Ummm ... betas are nice... long flowing fins & tails that look like silk in the water. Just remember to only keep one to a tank... get some neon tetras to add more color. Guppys can be cool too.

You should buy a multi-colored beta fish. They are pretty fishes. I've had so many beta fishes in my life I cannot tell you how much! In fact, I have one right now! Hope I can help!

I once knew someone who had an Arrowana in his aquarium. The fish cost a lot, though.
