The United States was a key force in the democratic elections which took place in Palastein, by which Hamas was voted in by the people to rule the region. My question is that why now is the entire region suffering due to economic santions and cutting of foreing aid? The united states is always trying to bring democracy to every part of the world, but when the votes don't go according to their plans, they are no longer in favour of the democracy?

Your legitimate question proves that the US makes mistakes; never did it realize that Hamas could win! Otherwise the US would not have pushed for election among the Palestenian people. Do you see the US talking democracy in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait...

The main reason that the US is not acknowledging the results of the Palestinian election is because Israel is not letting the US. Whether you like it or not, the US foreign policy has been hijacked by Israel. Author Frank Rich explains much more in his book, "The Greatest Story Ever Sold".

The right to vote carries with it the responsibility for the outcomes of the elections. They weighed the merits of one party, which included the support of the United States, against the merits of the other party, which didn't. They then chose what they thought was best for them. They knew we didn't support Hamas, and it may have even won BECAUSE we didn't support it. There's a substantial faction in Palestine whose primary goal was to get us out of their country. If we'd switched sides after the election, wouldn't we have been nullifying their votes?

We don't have to agree with their choice, to respect their right to make it.

Because they voted in Hamass when a perfectly legitimate and moderate alternative in Fatah existed. The neo-terrorist agenda of Hamass supports the destruction of Israel and doesn't recognize their right to exist. The U.N. and the U.S.A. intervened and offered to start talks between Israel and Palestine, as well as restore aid, if they were to agree to renounce violence, recognize Israel's right to exist and agree to a ceasefire. They were offered the chance to go into a joint government with Fatah. The last part they accepted.

Do you really expect Western nations to negotiate with terrorists? Where was the U.S. and U.N., not to mention the EU, when Gilad Shalit and other soldiers were kidnapped by Hezbollah and taken into Lebanon? They didn't bring sanctions against Lebanon, appoint a U.N. negotiator and go to the Arab League for some kind of assistance. They did not send in peacekeeping troops or organize a military intervention. They did not start talks with the Lebanese PM and the military leaders of Lebanon.

A new Democracy will make mistakes, those mistakes must be rectified in some fashion, our President could have sent in troops to kill all of the Hamas members, instead he opted to force a change through sanctions!!

i agree, the US always has to have things going their way. i dont think they ever thought that hamas would be voted in, and now that they are, they are finding out that they have basically strenghtened a terrorist organization, and now they feel they need some way to reverse what they have done. however, i think the people of palestine have spoken, they want their land back that was taken from them, and are willing to do whatever they must to get it back.

HYPOCRISY...democracy means what is approved by US and Israel who are there to screw you in the first place. By the way, Fatah lost the election because they are well-known for being very corrupt. Also stop calling Hammas terrorists, the real TERRORISTS are the Israeli and US governments.

Why do you think we should support Palestine with money even if we don't like their politics?
