The pot is for a tiny bonsai tree and it's about 1" high with a 2 1/2" diameter. So, the roots will possibly be very close to where I glued it. I have to go now, but I'll check for answers later tonight. Any help would be very appreciated. It's very important to me that this little tree flourishes when I start growing it. Thank you!!!!!

All your answers are wonderful so far, thank you so much!

I'll be setting the little terra cotta pot in another little ceramic pot that is filled with small rocks (it used to contain bamboo, but it died).

The tree I'll be growing from seed is a mini Merry Berry tree. It came with lots of instructions, so hopefully it will be a happy camper. I just read through them, and I think I'd better wait until warmer weather to start growing the little guy.

Thank for all your help, everyone!

Glue is not harmful to the soil or roots, as long as you don't put a lot of it on the inside of the pot. Just glue normally. Now, do you really know how to take care of your bonsai tree? Most of the time, bad instructions are given with bonsai because people need to sell them quickly. If you need more information, please contact me at

It shouldn't do any damage at all. It may, however, weaken the glue over time, because super glue does break down eventually. I have used it to seal cuts that were very deep and for repair purposes on all types of clay pots. You should be okay. Just make sure it is good and dry before adding your tree. Good luck and Happy Holidays. Nana

no. Not unless your GLUE is constanty FRESHLY applied and always wet so that the plant can absorb it.

most people dont keep TRUE BONSAI in terra cotta flower pots just FYI, you probably have some cutting from a shrub or tree branch that someone sold in the MALL as a bonsai

I wouldn't think so. The biggest problem you're likely to have is that the glue won't hold if it wasn't made for the porous surface of terracotta. Cyanoacrylate glue bonds in the absence of air, so any exposed glue line can be scraped smooth to the surface. Glue within the joint hardens within minutes, if not seconds.
