The gap between the wealthy and the impoverished is widening. I am lower middle classed and have seen this gap grow in 20 years. We can look at the voting public for reasons why. Most people that vote have the time to do it, have the time to follow the candidates, legislation, and our elected officials. How can the poor have time to watch these topics? Let alone vote, when working two-three jobs.
In the past few decades our country has made more decisions to economically protect our side of the planet, NAFTA and CAFTA. We have also allowed our government to protect economic interest, and defend from terrorist threat overseas, Afghanistan, & Iraq. My question and answer is that, will more jobs go there instead of staying here??? Yes.
What about stateside, I was reading the newspaper and in it had printed results from public school testing. Not very impressive. Not that we have bad teachers. Just not enough of them, and pay for them is not too good either.
Help others less fortunate, pay attention and VOTE. Please.

It all comes down to greed....there is something very wrong with a society that has 1% of the population with, like, 90% of the wealth.
How much does 1 person really need ? Is it so important to have 5 billion dollars instead of 2 or 3 billion ?
There are alot of other factors to consider (a person's work ethic, the economy, etc) but ultimately, we could solve the poverty problem easily if people weren't so greedy.

If John Kerry Heinz were to give every man woman and child in American one million dollars from the billion dollars of another man's fortune he backed into.. Well, in a few years the poor would be poor again and the wealthy would be wealthier. We are not all of equal intellect, motivation and drive. Some people like to work, some people like to get high and watch tv. Some are born talented and some, like me, can't sing or dance. Such is life. But those of use who are blessed with good fortune of motivation and drive should give to those in need. There are people because of no cause of their own have suffer miss fortune, illness and just plain old bad luck. Jesus said when you help the least of his brethren you help him. I never try to figure out why the poor guy is standing by the off ramp asking for change, I just give him a buck. Should he spend that buck on a bottle of cheap wine i hope it gives him comfort and solace for a moment in his life.

the reasons that there are so many poor and homeless, and the gap is ever widening between the classes is that the real solutions to these problems are in essence anti-American. too much resistence...
to Rudolf M.... check your math: with 1 billion dollars you can't divide that amongst 300 million people and give each person, everyone 1 million dollars.....it's more like 3 dollars and change.......

And just where did you get that ridicules information from. My guess is that you pulled it out of your butt.... which is where your head must be most of the time.
For your information, most "poverty" in the world is caused by corrupt governments of the impoverished nations.
Learn a little reality to back up your hate....

Lack of political will or the most apt to do something about it in power. The most popular Religious Right candidate to take the helm from the Hypocritical Meth Smoking Homo-Homophobe (you know that church in Colorado) was recently downplayed and discouraged because his platform was consistent with the ideals of Jesus about the treatment of the poor. HYPOCRACY

I think that you have you mind in a good place. I live in DC, and right near the Capitol there is a homeless shelter, it makes me see just how divided we are in this country and world. We care about money and what we can get.

Why not?
When the men who would be king were ruling and leading in guiding the survival and advancement of living human kind with ghostly kitchen's ghost stories and ghostly modern history of failures and horrors of the past with ghostly kitchen's dialect from a different community who is not even the creator of heaven and earth in planet of apes.
At loss and blinded with self prides, self lack of knowledge, self rudeness with self discrimination of self racism in making a monkey out of themselves in planet of apes.
The misery of living human kind with the blind in ruling and leading in guiding the blind in planet of apes.
