It's the French word for Christmas. There's two dots above the e in the French spelling (like a colon rotated 90 degrees)

I understand all the references to Christmas above, but I learned just this month that it means "birth", thus the connection to this holiday. Remember that we are celebrating the birth of Jesus our Savior.
