I think it was on 26th December, 2004 when the Asian Tsunami hit. About I million and a half died.
Otherwise it was the Bhuj earthquake in Gujarat, India on 26th Jan 2000.
There was also the 6th December 1984 MIC gas leak in Bhopal from the Union Carbide Plant which killed almost all the people of the surrounding towns.
This during peace times.
During war the Hiroshima Atom Bomb killed about 135000 of the city's people. Nagasaki was more contained because of the hills around the city.

I bet any days during the height of the Spanish Flu in 1918. In the 12 months of the pandemic, 50 million to 100 million people worldwide were killed. Do the math and that would make any single battle or bombing pale in comparsion
during WW1 the Brusilov Offensive over two million dead in only 6 weeks of fighting.

D-Day, June 6, 1944.
The allies launched an all-out attack on continental Europe (Normandy), which was controlled by the Nazis.
45,000 allied soldiers died, over 100,000 went missing. Nearly 200,000 Nazi soldiers died or were declared as missing. In total, the casualties were over 300,000.
This beats the First Battle of the Somme during WW1, when line after line of British and French troops were mowed down by German machine guns. The first day of the Battle (July 1st, 1916) the British lost over 57,000 soldiers, the French nearly 30,000 and the Germans over 40,000. The total casualties were close to 150,000, half of those in D-Day.

"Operation Gomorrah"
Hamburg; Germany- 30 July 1943
A joint US-Great Britain- Canadian Bombing campaign.
Allied records list 50,000 - 65,000 dead
German records indicate 87,000 - 115,000 dead
A firestorm was created through the use of round-the-clock bombing resulting in a firestorm that began to feed off itself.
That 'firestorm' had temperatures in excess of 1700 degrees Fahrenheit and ground wind speeds in excess of 150 mph.
This resulted in small trees being uprooted and some victims being literally sucked into the heart of the city. Victims that fled into the river boiled to death and very few survivors were found in the bomb shelters because they literally MELTED.
Several Allied bombers flying under 10,000 feet were actually sucked into the firestorm and destroyed without survivors.
Although the Atom bomb killed and estimated 56,000 - 87,000 each.... the end-result destruction of the European and Japanese firebombing campaigns actually resulted in more deaths...
As you stated......"morbid question"....
...and an even more "morbid answer"......

I also do not know the answer you are seeking but if you believe in the Bible (which i don't) it would be all of the population of the known world at the time of "The Flood" (you know, the time Noah loaded the ark and floated around for 40 days, and 40 nights).
