Aside from the rumor-mongers who are out to get attention, the fact is that the line is blurred. Unless a person is openly gay, I defy suggestions that one can tell just by looking. I have seen women who I knew were straight engage in behavior that, when shown on the television series "Xena: Warrior Princess," caused certain fans to tag the two prinicpal characters as lesbians. (But not the actresses, who are known to be straight.)
Or consider Anne Heche. I saw her famous "coming out" interview on the Tonight Show when she was seated next to Ellen DeGeneres. I didn't believe her for a second. Her voice sounded all wrong. And sure enough, that little affair did break up. Bisexual? Maybe, but I think she was straight all along and did not know that she was merely being curious.
There are, of course, many gays and lesbians in Hollywood and on Broadway. I worked in community theater with two different directors from New York who were openly gay, but they certainly did not flaunt this, any more than other directors flaunted wives, girlfriends, husbands or boyfriends. And as far as the general public was concerned, all these matters were discreet and nobody's business. Some of the actors I worked beside were gay, too. It didn't bother me at all, and I am both straight and a Christian. In some cases I only learned they were gay because it came up in the course of events. So perhaps it's a matter of "guilt by association."
Also, it's easier to say that someone is gay or lesbian than to say that someone is so unobtainable that one will likely never meet him or her.

Probably jealousy. If a celeb is male and even slightly attractive then there will be gay rumors. I think it's because straight men get jealous that women are attracted to some of these male celebs. Attractive female celebs don't get the "gay rumors" nearly as much.

People like to gossip, and, nine times out of 10, express some homoerotic urge that they may have.
Its true :P
Jealousey plays a large part too.

necause they want everryone to get hyped up about it. like the tabloids. why do you think they post so many rumors. because they know that's what people want to see. they get more attention that way instead of if they just told the truth.

It's just to generate attention; get people talking. Sometimes it's done maliciously-to try to hurt/insult someone.
