Do you prop pillows behind you, or have a special pillow or something to give back support?

I usually nurse laying down, but there are times when I want to sit up, and I need good support for my back.

Best answer gets the 10 points.

I have created a "nest" for myself. Through two vacations and several overnights, I've gotten quite adept. It sounds weird, but I sleep well even with a baby who makes a career of nursing. It starts with two or even three firm pillows in back, depending on the headboard of your bed. (You'll need enough back support to get your head clear of the headboard--there's nothing worse than having it dig into your skull all night.) The next key is a pillow on each side of you. This will give your elbows support as you nurse, and make switching sides easy. Top it off with a nursing pillow or Boppy right under the baby. But wait--there's more. A comfy receiving blanket tucked between chin and shoulder will keep your neck from straining. If your baby kicks off all covers, like my toddler does, another little blanket to cover your shoulders may be called for.

Sigh. The joys of nighttime parenting! I tell myself that it won't last long.

I would use 2 pillows behind my back, one lying more flat and another one on top of it lying more narrow, then I would have my good ol' Boppy pillow to support my arms and the baby. Seemed to work okay and I was able to keep one arm free to sip some water or change the channel on the TV... You might like a baby sling also and just use some pillows to support your back or one of those "husband" pillows might work.

Use pillows behind your back. And on your lap to help support the baby. I personally have a Boppy pillow (there are many "nursing" pillows out there and they are a good investment as they are a good fit and firmness for breastfeeding)

Also, using the football hold was always my favorite for sitting up in bed. I personally prefer sitting in a chair with arms to nurse.

Good for you for doing what is best for your baby and breastfeeding! Way to go mom!

I would prop some pillows behind your lower back and one under the arm that you are holding the baby in; so that the weight of the baby rest on the pillow and not on your arm and back. I hope this helps.

I nurse in bed with a few pillows behind me, and also one in my lap (you could also use a boppy) for the baby to rest on. It's easier than holding her for the time that she wants to nurse. Make sure you have your water, and possibly a snack handy. The other thing I do that she really seems to enjoy, is turn on the tv on a music station (my cable has Sirius radio). It gives me a little glow to nurse by, without being so bright as to wake her up, plus, she loves the soft lovesongs, or jazz channels, perfect way to relax her for her nightly feedings!

Good luck!

I would prop pillows behind you and get a boppy.. that worked wonders for me.. i would not go anywhere without it.. not only are you comfy but so is your child... just lay them down either in the front or on their side and you are set.. not straining to hold them or wearing your arms out.. and it was so comfy.. sorry.. i love the boppy and it is worth the $20 to get it...

If you have $40 to spare... I bought a Homemedics massaging "chair" It is a backrest ( that massages of course) with two padded arm rests. Even has a cup holder!! The back part is the perfect height for me to lay my head back on as well (I am 5'3"). It folds as well for easier storage.

That with a "Boppy" pillow works wonders!!!!!
