First, plug it in.
Then you have to SET both computers to the SAME workgroup name (Right click on My Computer and pick PROPERTIES, then look for the name and workgroup names).
Then Go to the network section of your Control Panel. RIGHT CLICK on the Local Area Network sectionand pick Properties. Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) section and set the IP addresses:
IP: 192.168.1.2 (for one computer)
IP: 192.168.1.3 (for other computer)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
At this point, you should set a folder SHARING. Then you can BROWSE your network from the other computer to SEE that shared folder.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

would would desire to characteristic some further information as you generally do no longer discover 'ethernet hubs' anymore. maximum are switches and there's a distinction. Couple strategies precise now regardless of the indisputable fact that: a million. Is the computer one that would desire to be plugged in for the community port to be on? some laptops through default turn off the ethernet port whilst on battery. it particularly is became on generally in the capability administration element or each so often in the community connections and then community section connection. 2. If the device replaced into presented through your satellite tv for pc provider, they'd have it configured to no longer enable further connections. Did they have you ever install any application to make certain that the computer to connect? 3. Can the computer see the computer or the rest on the community? have you ever tried plugging it into every person elses community?

I would agree with danuitti's answer above in principle - the only thing i would add is the subnet is dependent on your routers. See what ip it defaults to in the readme (you should have some sort of documentation with your router). it may be 192.168.0.1 (not 192.168.1.1), or you may have set it yourself, in which case either substitute the third octet (number) with the routers on the pc or change the router so it matches the pcs
eg
IP: 192.168.1.2 (for one computer)
IP: 192.168.1.3 (for other computer)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
or
IP: 192.168.0.2 (for one computer)
IP: 192.168.0.3 (for other computer)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Merry Christmas and Seasonal Greetings!

Once the ethernet hub is setup, simply plug in each PC into it. If the internet is shared, you should be setup to go. It's very easy to do.

Plug the rj45 from your internet connection into the assigned slot on the hub, then plug each computer into one of the other open slots on the hub. You will have to have your provider assign you with IP #'s for each additional computer that you add, as hub's unlike routers do not generate IP #'s.
