When i woke up this morning, my house smelled of mold. The worst spot is near the tree. Is it possible for a christmas tree to become moldy? If so, how do you get rid of the smell...if there is any way.

They'll only get moldy on the North side. IF you rotate your tree every day you shouldn't have any problems.

I've never seen mold on a Christmas tree. Is it possible that the water spilled on something (carpeting or tree skirt) and that's what's getting moldy? Try changing the water (use a sponge or towel to soak up the water that's in there, wipe out the receptacle if you can reach it, and refill it) and feel around for something under or near the tree that has gotten wet. Sorry, figuring this out isn't going to be fun, but if you don't its probably going to get worse. Good Luck!

Dear Lori:

There are to many unknowns in your question. However; lets say the cause is specifically the tree, I would then have to say that YES it could cast off a moldy odor and that I would first check to see if the water, assuming that it has a deep dish, is fresh and not contaminated. And as for getting rid of the smell you could use a mild water/chlorine solution and spay it on surface areas of your choice with exception to medal objects or electrical wires of course.

Remember you can always ask a professional because your health is first".

No.. it is NOT possible UNLESS the branches were subject to a lot of water.. Is it possible that the bottom cut off section of the tree is in water and is moldy there?

Yes- the water needs to be drained or add 1/2 cup of bleach to the well that it sits in and add 2 tablespoons to the water you add daily. this will kill the mold. You can also spray the base of the tree with Lysol an excellent mold killer. Good Luck!
