If you dance, are you a vegetarian? How long have you danced, and how long have you been a vegetarian?

I'm just curious, if it is something common in dancers, and if that helps them maintain their weight, or if they are for other reasons.

I am a veg, and I turned veg when 14, and have been dancing a little longer than 15 years.

It seems plane is the only one who understands what I am asking. I still get protein without the meat. And I am not saying you have to be vegetarian to dance, I am ask asking how many dancers ARE vegetarian, and if the weight they had before changed to less after they became a vegetarian. I'm just curious to know that other dancers are veggies.

Billie Jean King was a vegetarian, and she is one of the most famous athletes of all time. I'd say she was pretty fit. I am also a gymnast of 10 years.

I noticed that tendency as well. I was a vegetarian for 9 years, but last year I started eating fish again in small quantities.
I turned vegetarian before I started dancng seriously. It relly helps me to keep the weight down while keeping my energy level high. Greasy or heavy food makes me sleepy and sluggish and not wanting to move.
I have 3 friends who are dancers who are also vegetarian. Other dancers that I know epsecially female are just "picky eaters".

There are reasons for that: digesting meat and animal fat takes enegry (that's what makes me sleepy), not only releases energy. Digesting carbs is much easier on the body, and you need your calories readily available when you are dancing a lot.

Becoming a vegetarian was the only thing that curbed my weight gain. I was lean all my life, I looked like a model, and then - boom - I started gaining! Extra 20 pounds in 3 months, and nothing seemed to stop it. I was freaking out because my parents are overweight and I though I was going there too. Quitting meat seemed to help.

I was a prima for 10 yrs. w/ the Kennedy Dancers Ballet Company, and, never a "veggie"; your body needs more protein than what vegetables provide to be the most excellent dancer. Then I decided to have a child- ( a daughter) who is now also a dancer. ps-Thanks for answering my question earlier, however, I was looking for answers from adult parents, not know-it-all teen-agers.

I don´t think one thing has anthing to do with the other. You can be a dancer without being a vegetarian.

well, im 15 and a veggie... ive been dancing since i was 3ish... as far as maintaining what i call "studio weight" [the MAXIMUM pounds to weigh at my studio without worry] it doesnt matter if you are a veg, rather how healthy you eat. i am because i love animals.
