why would i go and join a fight when the cops just showed up? if the cops had not showed up i would have joined in. most likely would have gotten my butt kicked but at least i would have tried to help the one guy.

this is the difference between professional and causual approches...living in chicago, gappers blocks cause more traffic than the accident itself...ppl are startled, drawn in, and react to things not commonly seen in "their" world..so, how often do you see a group of ppl with a fight going on in the middle...police, firefighters, rescue folks, ppl who work in ER and im sure you can think of more...are trained on how to react in these situations...here is another example...look at all the police officers that quit, committed suicide or just simply left when the hurricane hit new orleans..they were not prepared...NYC with the fall of the towers and how quickly and hard they worked to rescue who they could...its a matter of being prepared for the worst, and hope for the best...hope this helps somewhat

There is an interesting phenomenon called "diffusion of responsibility". What you desribed illustrates it. If 2 or 3 people are watching they will look to each other for cues as to whether they should intervene or stand back. But as each additional bystander joins the crowd and see that the 1st two or three are doing nothing, that is what they will do.

It comes down to this: if the other guy is willing to do something I am more likely to also do something. But if he just spectates, so will I. Merry Christmas.

i kinda call it the Barney Fife syndrome. people will talk the talk but when it comes down to actually walking the walk they stand there like a bunch of deer staring at head lights about to get ran over.
of course i have been trained , but the people that were just watching could have slowed the progress of this one guys butt from getting whipped upon. they were frozen in fear and unable to do anything about the situation.it's kind of sad, that even if the dude had a butt kicking coming to him, that 3 against 1 is never right and someone should have at least tried to help.

Maybe the 3 guys had a reason to...you just showed up too late. Maybe they are bad guys, in which case, who wants to walk into trouble just to help someone? Could be anything. You have to know more about the altercation before you can start speculating......

It's simple. People nowa days are afraid of lawsuits or other negative feedback from people. Unless it directly affects them, all or most people will not bother to help out. A shame? Yes it is but can you blame them?

People are tooo afraid to do anything. Hey, they think that someone else is gonna stop it, but they don't. People just don't want to be caught up in the mess. why did u stop and just look?

Not your fight. Anyway the guy may have been a paedophile, and you would have prevented him from getting a kicking.

This is caused by fascination with similar species, just as the way my dog is fascinated with my cat and my young son.

who knows what the guy did? if he did something that deserved a good a**kicking then yes it would be fun to watch him get what's coming to him.
