I feel dead. How do I know?

You can't know if you're dead, because the only test is to kill yourself, and once you've done that, "knowledge" may not be available to you.
The only thing you can be sure of is your own existence: "I think, therefore I am." But that does not determine your status in terms of "life" or "death."

Delia, you're not dead. If you were, you wouldn't be typing. Just incase. check your pulse. Put your 2 fingers on your wrist or throat. If you feel something beating.... That's your pulse and it means you're alive.

If you are not breathing and still have a pulse then you are not dead.
