OK yes. Perhaps he has an over -inflated ego. Does that mean his works... his actual WORKS need to be dismissed. You seem feel you are in a position to sit in judgment of him, so you must have a bit of an ego as well. Pray tell, how much of YOUR money have you donated to help those less fortunate. Don't have any money? How much of your time?
Having said that, I don't believe you ask to be knighted. It's not like the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Once upon a time a celebrity was honored to receive one because it was given on the merits of their career. These days you can just buy one. Knighthood is an honor bestowed upon someone deemed worthy. It is not requested.
Robespierre? He has been recognized by Time Magazine, along with the Gates', for his charitable giving. How can you say he's not used his own money?
And a question for Dagumpster. Let's say you you had the means and the time to make a contribution in fighting something horrible like world hunger and you did it because you wanted to.. out of the goodness of your heart. Down the road you are recognized for your good works. Does that mean you actually bought that award? I think not.

well said. this hypocrite has got the nerve to tell us to reach for our pockets and give the money to the people of africa when he and bob geldof lie through the skin of their teeth and do jack-all. not to mention the pair are self-absorbed, arrogant, shallow, pompous and two-faced. i didn't fall for that crap anyway, i saw right through it. live aid was a con and live 8 was a total con as well. likewise, a knighthood? as if. there are people who work for the likes of oxfam, save the children and other charities who've done more for the poor than the likes of him and other so-called a-list celebs have managed. if anything they deserve knighthoods- not bono and geldof, who seem to talk the talk but cannot walk the walk. go figure. its one thing trying to raise the profile of a region, whose people are supposed to be poorer than us, but its also another to go out there and make something happen for the good. yet this is something bono and bob geldof have failed to do on numerous occasions

Why would he or Geldof have to donate any money, all they
have to say to the likes of us, would be attend the concerts, or
buy the records and we donate the money.'Jo Public' give the
money the so called stars get 'The Accolades'.Something in
John Lennons favour at least he sent his award back .there's
nothing like a bit of hypocracy amongst the monied fraternity.
A pity the home situation was'nt addressed as quickly as the
overseas one was

Bono is rich because he has worked hard. He has earned his money and he can do as he pleases with it. I know for a fact that he has given a vast amount of money to charity. He has recieved the honour for `services to charity` YOU do not have to put your hand in your pocket because he asks you to. If you give to charity you , you do it because you want to, not because someone else wants you to. You sound to me as though you are envious of Bono and resentful, perhaps that is why you are so scathing about a man you do not know.

All of these mega rich celebs are the same.
They sprout on about poverty and homelessness and yet they have the wealth to do something about it but what do they do, they spend and hour or so of there time singing on some carp recording and want you to shell out for it.
Then they hide themselves in their tax haven to stop their government from benefiting from their wealth and make the state that much poorer.
I've had enough of those a*seholes trying to make honest decent people feel guilty.

well said, he's a self gratifying twit.
what has he done for them apart from spend money visiting and having photos and films made, like you say, he could do more with his money but he loves to let others know what he's doing for the publicity, why not just get on with it if he's at all concerned really.
i am sure he set out on this road to get a commendation anyway and thats the real reason.
i have done 32 years in caring for people with disabilities, do i get any recognition? nope, but i dont look for it, i do it for the satisfaction and to know i can make a difference.

I guess it would not bother me as much if they took some atention away from him and put it on the other thousands of people that gave charity to the same thing.

and who says he has to dedicate his life earnings (from whatever) to feed Africa? He is only one man, dont put a man to feed a continent. What do you think of the Vatican?
Listen personally I dont give money to charity yet, but he can be heard for who he is, he is just using his persona to be heard by leaders and stuff.
Yes I do like Bono (most of the time), but who am I to judge, the guy is trying to help big time.
