About age three--when I finally associated the tree with fun and prezzies. Going to high street with Mum and Gram, and the kettle-donation bells.
My how memories flood!
A Merrily joyous, barking mad, wickedly happy Christmas to everyone who celebrates!

1944 x-mas eve at my cousins during World war II, Christmas trees were very scarce, This one was about 5 feet tall and it must have had only 15 branches on it. I received a red and white wood steam boat with rollers, so I could push it on the floor. Although it floated crooked. My Uncle played his guitar and we all sang songs. Plus all the good food. Now I am 70 years old and I still vividely remember that special X-Mas.
May everyone have a Merry and Memorable One also;

When I was four, I decided I wanted a puppy. I mounted an impressive, heartfelt campaign for this dog, with all the child-earnest entreaties I could muster.
"I'll feed him every day and get him water." "I will walk him." "I will clean up his you know."
Christmas morning arrived...I went downstairs and there was a little cocker spaniel puppy waiting for me with a red bow tied to him.
My eyes lit up. I forgot that there were other people and other presents. Nothing existed except me and My Very Own Dog, still to be named. My childish laughter pealed through the house. Nothing was ever so sweet as that moment.
Then My New Dog ran around behind the tree and bit the wire to the Christmas lights. They flickered ominously for about ten seconds. A low hum was clearly audible. The lights went out, and from behind the tree I heard one weak, gasping...
"Woof."
Mom wouldn't let me go behind the tree. Dad disposed of the remains.
That was my first and last puppy, and I never even got to name him.

Mom took my sister and me (6 and 4) to sit on Santa's lap for pictures. Said we could ask for two things (not be greedy). So we decided on 1) a record player 2) a small rocking chair, and 3) roller skates for each of us. Santa was shocked that my list was so short. Mom said I could accept the candy cane, that didn't count as one of my two things. We wandered around the store for awhile, bought three records just in case, went window shopping with Dad, then came home and Wow! A tree was set up, with lights, and under the tree were -- you guessed it! It was wonderful! I already knew Santa was pretend, so -- how in the world did that happen? ? ?

Waking up at age five, to a little town of ''little people'' (fisher price) all set up with parking garage, airport, house, & farm yard. All under a brightly light, christmas tree.
My dad got up pretty early, to do this. But gave santa all the credit.
