It is not a total guess...Scientists have found caves that date back millions of years that have preserved many heiroglyphics that were painted my cavemen themselves. In the pictures some were green and some were not. The ones een in movie such as Godzilla are stereotypes of the main "reptile". Godzilla is said to be gigantic lizard out to eat everyone. Hence Godzilla is green cause it represents a giant lizard. A Tyrannosaurus Rex is typically green bacause of its representation in heiroglyphics. However, not all dinosaurs were green.

Those who currently reconstruct dinosaurs and create pictures of them do not assume that dinosaurs were green. There are very few examples of preserved dinosaur skin to give us any guidance as to their coloring. Most recently created dinosaur pictures use a wide variety of colors and patterns for the skin; much like the coloring seen in birds, which are probably the closest living relatives to dinosaurs.

We dont. We assume that since they had very reptile-like features that they were very reptilian colors. Like green and yellow.

Some depictions of raptors were purple and blue.

We really don't know what certain dinosaurs looked like because we could have put certian bones in the wrong place.

They do not know for certain what dinosaurs looked like or sounded like. However, scientists do make educated guesses from the characteristics of present day lizards.
