THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT SOME OF YOUR OLDER GM TRUCKS HAD WITH THEIR THROTTLE BODY INJECTION SYSTEMS DURING COLD STARTS WHEN MOST OF YOUR FRESH AIR IS BLOCKED FROM ENTERING THE THROTTLE BODY... ANY VACUUM LEAKS AROUND THE THROTTLE BODY BASE GASKET WILL CAUSE YOUR MAP SENSOR TO ALTER ENGINE RPM AND OFTEN CAUSES A ROUGH IDLE...CHECK FOR VACUUM LEAKS AND IF THAT DOESN'T HELP...TRY UNPLUGGING YOUR MAP SENSOR TO SEE IF THAT SMOOTH ES OUT YOUR IDLE...IF SO...REPLACE MAP SENSOR.

You might try a fuel injector cleaner. I found that using this about every six months in a full tank a gas helps keep my truck running smoothly. My next door neighbor who happened to own a Napa Auto Parts store told me about this and he used to bring home the STP Fuel Injector Cleaner for me and for his vehicles. He was a great man and I miss him dearly. Anyway, try this and see if it works. Happy Holidays!!!

Check the fuel filter and you might also try adding an additive such as HEET to your gas tank to eliminate any moisture in the gasline.

you can check the choke mechanism that sometimes does it as well also with the check light coming on and off I can think that perhaps you may need a new catalytic converter or oxygen sensor

My guess is a malfunctioning choke. You should be able to see its linkage moving along with the engines rpms as it fluctuates.
