i recently acquired the DVD threads and yes it was an extremely powerful film,i was due to watch it when we were studying Nuclear Bombs in science but i was unable to watch it.Glad i waited 20 years to see it.

When the Wind Blows is also a great film animation about the daily lives of an ordinary couple and what happens when the "Bomb" is dropped

When it was due to come on T.V. the school I attended made a big thing about it, most of us watched it, so a whole generation got to see a brilliantly made film that dealt incredibly well with a difficult subject. The impact (if you pardon the pun) on us would have been varied I am sure, but it drove a very valid point home. THIS IS REAL. As a teenager at that time, it made me come to terms pretty quick with the fact that we live in a very politically and religious precarious world, and the reality that it can all go bang at any given moment. It helped a whole generation to understand that tolerance and diplomacy were our only hope of survival. It also helped us to understand that when the poo hits the fan, it is every man for himself. We got to have a taste of the after effects for generations (should they survive). The reality was harsh, but we were young enough to accept the way things are. Terrorism, nuclear bombs, it is part of the world we live in. Once you accept it, you get on with it, when you do that, you deal with it rationally.

It is a pity that it is not shown every ten years on T.V. In fact, it would be even better if it was shown to children in their last year at school. I understand my daughter watched it at school in one of the lessons for difficult children, but other children who had normal lessons did not get to see it.

Threads is actually free to download from Google Video. I just watched it, after not seeing it in almost ten years, and it is just as powerful as when it first aired.
