Incorrect. McConaghey (sp?) plays a new coach hired to rebuild the program after 75 people die in the plane crash, including the old coach. One assistant coach and a couple players remain from the old team; for various reasons they were not on the plane.

Incorrect is the new coach hired to create a new team after the entire old team died in a plane crash. And i haven't seen the movie or read the book just paid attention to previews on several shows Suggest u do the same.

I go to Marshall University and have lived in Huntington my whole life. As everyone has already stated his character volunteers to rebuild and coach the team. Its an amazing story and very inspiring. I hope you enjoy the movie.

I haven't seen it but from what I got he just happens to be someone who applies for the position- nobody survived the crash.

he didnt even get on the plane. thats the only reason he was alive. everyone onboard was killed.
